Maine currently requires a boater education card from anyone between 16 and 18 who operate a personal watercraft in Maine state waters, unless they are accompanied by a person 18 years of age or older who physically occupies the personal watercraft. Persons under 16 may not operate a boat in Maine.
Additionally, many insurance agencies offer a boat insurance discount for all boaters who have taken a boating safety course.
Maine does not currently require a boating licence.
